About the tutor

My name is Denys Laptiev. I hold a Candidate of Sciences degree in theoretical physics and work as a researcher. I graduated with honours from the School of Physics at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and have authored or co-authored more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals. My research has been recognised through academic scholarships and support from international professional organisations.

Education and research

I graduated with honours in theoretical physics in 2008 and defended my Candidate of Sciences thesis in 2015. Since 2011, I have worked in the Department of Theoretical Physics at the B. Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

My research covers condensed-matter physics, magnetic spin systems, mathematical modelling and machine learning. I also help organise the international Condensed Matter & Low-Temperature Physics conference — CM&LTP.

Professional software development

I have worked in commercial software development since 2016, with experience in Java, databases, microservices, cloud systems and production support.

I have conducted technical interviews, mentored developers and coordinated teams. This lets me teach not only syntax, but also how real applications are designed, debugged and completed.

Teaching experience

I have taught one-to-one physics, mathematics and programming lessons since 2011, including lessons for pupils in grades 7–11. Former students have been admitted to universities in Czechia, Slovakia and the USA; one programming student later began working at EPAM.

We begin by defining a clear goal and choosing a pace that suits the student’s level and available study time.

How lessons work

We study the necessary theory and reinforce it through examples and problems. Lessons can follow the school curriculum or focus on a current difficulty.

I see mistakes as a natural part of learning. When needed, I also keep parents informed about progress and topics that deserve extra attention.
